ARTIST STATEMENT

Martha Putney was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley. She received a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art from the University of Mary Washington in 2015. Her head is filled with colors when she meets people, reads a book, and thinks about time. Because of this, she is endlessly fascinated in how color has a language of its own for telling stories about people, places, emotions, and moments in time. She aims to capture these stories by subtle and bold nuances of colors and shapes.
